Dr. Tom F. Sterkenburg will present a rigorous critique of Solomonoff induction at the UAI regular research meeting on Monday, March 9th, at 1:15 pm EST rather than the usual 3 pm EST. We will use the usual zoom link.

Sterkenburg is Emmy Noether junior group leader at the Munich Center for Mathematical Philosophy (MCMP, LMU Munich). His PhD was at CWI and the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Groningen, and his postdoctoral studies were at the Munich Center for Mathematical Philosophy.

Sterkenburg will introduce a careful and sophisticated critique of the conventional wisdom on Solomonoff induction, which draws on his thesis “Universal Prediction: A Philosophical Investigation”, and will soon appear as an invited chapter in the volume “Philosophical Movements Revisited: Bayesianism.” I look forward to continuing a long and productive dialogue with Sterkenburg, and expect that this talk will be of particularly great interest to our research community.
